Plain & Simple

Plain & Simple It’s that time of the year where your workload is getting ever higher but morale is getting lower due to the Winter blues. Either that or you just ready for Christmas and the New Year (maybe a mixture of the two). With that in mind, I’ve taken it upon myself to attempt to cheer up all you party animals out there with the latest installment from One Phat DJ – Plain & Simple.
Another 10-track promo of the latest and funkiest of funky house including tracks from those guys who seem to have to put their name on every track this year, the Freemasons, as well as the likes of The Hound Dogs, Joey Negro, Silosonic and some oldies from Delacy and The Source thanks to remixes by the Young Punx and Shapeshifters respectively.

  1. Delacy – Hideaway 2005 (Young Punx Mix)
  2. Hound Dogs – I Like Girls (Phunk Investigation Fantasy Mix)
  3. Joey Negro – Make A Move On Me (Joey Negro Club Mix)
  4. Silosonic – Something (To Make You Feel Alright) (Buzz Kitchen Remix)
  5. The Source ft Candi Staton – You Got The Love (Shapeshifters Main Mix)
  6. Porno – Music Power (Vocal Mix)
  7. Freemasons – Watchin’ (Vox)
  8. Afropeans ft Inaya Day – Better Things (Syke N’ Sugarstarr Remix)
  9. Public DJ ft Emanuelle – My Night (Kortezman Vocal Mix)
  10. The House Keepers – Go Down (Thomas Falke Remix)

If you need a hit of funky fresh tunes, go download the mix right now. Of course, if you’ve subscribed to my podcast (iTunes) you should get it automatically. There is also a poor attempt at a Christmas-orientated CD cover available for download if you want to print one off.
Have yourself a funky little Christmas and an even funkier new year!!

  1. I’ve had this running a few times over now. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a bit different from the things i usually listen to, but it’s a nice change.

Smoothly mixed and nice selection of tracks for my work-day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

As said, it’s been running for a while, and it keeps it’s pace and just kind of “sits” there.

If there was to be one negative comment about it, it would be that some of the mixes are a bit too much “fading” for my liking, and that it could become a bit boring if listening to it as a DJ Mix. There isn’t too much happening..

Right now, that’s a good thing.

    “hits play again”. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Great mix man, exactly the sort of stuff i’m into ๐Ÿ™‚
Does Public DJ ft Emanuelle โ€“ My Night use the same sample as Todd Terry -Keep on Jumpin’? – Love it!!

  3. Great selection of traxx as always and nice smooth mixes.
If i compare this mix to your other mixes: Funky Pants, Best Served Chilled and Born In October i think this is the best mix so far, tumbs up m8!

  4. Yup agree with osWald, abit too much fading into and out of but otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable, bouncy mix. Also at work listening to it and I get the urge to turn it up, give it volume, jump around the office.. ๐Ÿ™‚
There’s hardly anyone here so it’s loud! ๐Ÿ™‚
    Nice job ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thanks for all the reviews guys! I’ve been away from the Internet for the last week so it’s nice to return to such positive feedback.

what did you use to mix it?

It’s Acid Music Studio 6 – great piece of software for creating these kind of mixes. I finally purchased it last month to finish this mix off.

It certainly sounds like it doesn’t it? That’s why I like it too.

i think this is the best mix so far

Thanks man!! From what I’ve heard from others, Funky Pants normally gets the big thumbs up but I really do like this mix (next to Born In October for me).

Mate, do you mean between the tracks or within the tracks? If its in relation to the break downs, then understood. I’ve tried a different approach with the mixing on this one and tried to make the most of the quieter moments (did anyone notice the Hound Dogs beat drop over the Afropeans track?)
I’m in the process of putting my “best of 2005” mix together at the moment. Hopefully I’ll have it done by the end of next week (lots of work on otherwise!) I’m trying to be a little more adventerous and interesting on the mixes in this, maybe experiment a little more with the filters available in the software. Who knows… you’ll see (or hear) as and when its completed!
